¶ Measurements management
In the app this module is called Measure. Open it from Measure in the left rail. It has two tabs: Map and Inventory.
¶ Conceptual approach
In the digitalization of landfill operation, we use two essential concepts: Assets and Measurements. They are linked together, but they are different.
Assets are physical objects. They are defined by their attributes, such as location, geometry and other physical parameters (length, diameter, substance, material, etc.). For example a well, a pond, a piece of pipe or a building.
Measurements are the points where data is recorded. A measurement is placed in one of two ways:
- At its asset: it has no position of its own and is drawn where its linked asset is. If the asset moves, the measurement moves with it.
- At its own position: you draw it on the map as a point, a line or an area.
Below is an example: a lake or a pond. You can have one or more measurement points on that lake. All of them are linked to the lake.
¶ Linked asset and symbolic link
A measurement can be linked to an asset in two ways.
- Linked Asset is the physical object where the reading is taken.
- Symbolic Link is a second asset that the measurement represents.
For example, you measure a gas drain at one end, where there is a measurement plug (measurement port). You link the measurement physically to the asset of type "plug". You can also link it symbolically to the whole drain, so it is better represented on the gas map.
In the same way, a gas well's measurement can be linked to the plug on its wellhead.
¶ Find measurements
¶ On the map
The Map tab shows every measurement on the site. Points are coloured by what they measure (their substance). The Measurements legend lists the substances and how many points each has.
The legend also shows Own position and Asset's position. A white outline means the measurement has no position of its own and is drawn at its asset.
In the Layers panel, the Measurements tab lets you show or hide each group. The Assets and Basemap tabs work as on the other maps.
Click a point to open its panel. It has two tabs: Details and Readings. At the bottom, Inventory opens the point in the inventory and Edit lets you change it.
¶ In the inventory
The Inventory tab lists every measurement in a table. It shows the level, measurement type, substance, linked asset and its type, symbolic link, number of readings and the date of the last reading.
Use the filters to narrow the list:
- Search: name, description or linked asset.
- Level and Substance.
- Position: anywhere, its own, its asset's, or no position.
- Readings: any, has readings, or never read.
Click a row to see its record on the right, with the same Details and Readings tabs. Show on map opens the point on the map.
¶ Create a measurement
If you plan to link measurements to assets, make sure all assets are set up on your site first.
Click + New measurement at the top of the page. A panel opens beside the map with three numbered sections.
¶ 1. Measurement
- Name (required). If you link the measurement to an asset, it is usually the same name as the asset.
- Measurement Type. Always set one. Without a type, the readings are untyped, and modules that filter by type will not list the measurement.
- Level: Level 1, 2 or 3, or no level. See Levels below.
- Description, if you want one.
¶ 2. Position
- Choose Its own to draw the measurement yourself. Pick Point, Line or Area, click Draw on the map, then click the map. You can drag a placed point to move it. Use Draw again or Clear to start over.
- Choose Its asset's to place the measurement at its linked asset. This choice is only available once you have linked an asset in section 3.
¶ 3. Links
- Linked Asset: type the asset's name, press Enter and pick it from the results. Assets can have the same name but different types, so check the type shown beside each result. For example, choose the plug (measurement port).
- Symbolic Link: search for a second asset the same way. For example, the drain.
- Default measurement for this asset: tick this to make it the asset's main measurement.
Click × beside a linked asset to unlink it.
Click Save measurement when you are done. To create several in a row, click Save & new: it saves this one and starts a new empty one.
If you click Cancel with unsaved changes, the app asks "Discard this measurement?". Click Keep editing to go back.
¶ See what a point has recorded
Open the Readings tab of a point, on the map or in the inventory.
- Pick a parameter at the top, for example a gas ratio. The chart shows how it has changed over time.
- The table below lists the most recent readings with their date and values. Where it is known who took a reading, a By column shows their name and marks readings taken with the phone app.
¶ Edit a measurement
- Change the details: in the inventory record, click Edit details. You can change the name, measurement type, primary substance, description and links.
- Change the position: click Edit on map in the inventory record, or Edit in the point's panel on the map. Where the measurement is drawn can only be changed on the map. Click Save changes when you are done.
¶ Set the level for many points at once
In the inventory, tick the rows you want to change. A bar appears showing how many are selected. Choose a level in Set level and click Apply. Click Clear to untick them all.
To change the level of one point, click its level in the table.
¶ Levels
A measurement can have Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3, or no level. 1 is the highest level.
Levels let you rank your measurement points, so you can filter and group them, for example with the Level filter in the inventory.
¶ Removing a measurement
Measurements cannot be deleted in the app. If you need one removed, ask your administrator or ReSource support.
¶ Permissions
Creating and editing measurements needs the Measurement management permission. Without it you can still view the map, the inventory and the readings. See also Roles and Access.
